We all know I love red lipstick, in fact I think if you know me it’s common knowledge that 99% of the time I will be wearing it. Therefore, when I saw Listerine were offering a free lipstick and one of the shades was red – I simply could not miss out on such a bargain!
As I’ve said many times before, I love finding high quality drug store Brands and I can definitely confirm that Barry M is one of them. They’ve been around for as long as I can remember – I always used to buy their Nail Polishes and I love that before a lot of other Brands followed the trend, they have always produced a huge variety of unique shades and dared to break the makeup boundaries.
Out of the three shades available – which are all products from BARRY M’s current Collection and retail from just £4.99, I picked Red My Lips. If you’re not a red kinda girl like myself, then there are ten other Satin Super Slick Lip Paints and two of them are offered by Listerine – Peachy Keen and Berry-licious, which are perfect for the Summer!
Red My Lips is a beautiful blue toned 1950s red, my favourite of course and is produced with a satin shiny finish. However, if you’re a matte lover like me – don’t be discouraged! Although the lipstick is a satin formula, it is incredibly pigmented and long lasting, which can be pretty hard to find from my experience. Furthermore, what’s great about this product is that it doesn’t feel sticky on your lips, which is a huge bonus as I often find a lot of glossy products do and that can be very uncomfortable. This beauty is also infused with Shea Butter and Vitamin E, so leaves your lips feeling moisturized and definitely not dry!
The packaging for BARRY M’s Super Satin Slick Lip Paint’s is a gorgeous silver chrome, which contrasts beautifully with the vibrant red shade. The product itself has a gorgeous BM Logo imprinted on the lipstick and I especially love the italic handwriting, it’s so classy and chic.
I’ve noticed that BARRY M have vastly expanded their lipstick range and have a huge variety of different products available, which is brilliant! I’m definitely looking forward to trying more products as I’m intrigued to see if the rest of their beauty buys are as good as their Satin Lipsticks!
Ultimately, I absolutely love this lipstick and I definitely hope to add more BARRY M products to my makeup collection!
If you’ve followed me on Social Media for the past 6+ years, then I’m 99% sure you know how much I love the beautiful soul, Marilyn Monroe. Ironically, it feels almost strange for me to type out her full name, as I like to think of Marilyn as almost an Guardian Angel to me, definitely not a stranger. Some will understand that and relate, others may judge – but Marilyn will always have a special place in my heart.
A few weeks ago, to celebrate Marilyn’s 91st Birthday, I wrote, as I do every year, a Tribute for my favourite lady and was pleasantly surprised when I noticed, Marilyn Monroe Eyewear like my post and follow me on Instagram. Marilyn Eyewear is Officially Licensed by The Estate of Marilyn Monroe and is one of the many Brands they have created which is all inspired and influenced by this very special woman. As my beautiful friend, Laura has previously worked with Marilyn Eyewear, I decided it would be worth a try contacting the Brand and thanking them for following my Instagram Account. I also proposed the possibility of a collaboration. Once again, I was surprised and very thankful to receive a reply agreeing to my suggestion about a collaboration!
After just four days, my parcel from Marilyn Eyewear arrived, all the way from America! I can’t emphasize how appreciative I am of such a quick delivery, especially from so far away – I was already beyond impressed. However, little did I know that I was going to be completely blown away when I opened the parcel. Not only was I gifted a pair of beautiful Sunglasses, there were also three beauty products from Marilyn Monroe Spas! It wasn’t until I looked on their website, that I realized I had been sent the, Limited Edition Gift of Glam! Thank you so much Marilyn Monroe Eyewear and Marilyn Monroe Spas!
The packaging is a classic chic black matte box, finished with gorgeous gold writing and Marilyn’s iconic signature – what could be better!? As soon as you open it, you’re greeted by dazzling red tissue paper and inside are the iconic products all inspired by my favourite girl – Marilyn! Nail Polish in Marilyn Red, a red Beauty Blender, a Lipstick in Marilyn Red 03 and if that wasn’t enough, a pair of Marilyn Eyewear Sunglasses in Annabel Noir 001! If you’re a Marilyn lover or simply adore the Vintage look, then this is without doubt a must have – it’s simply timeless!
The Sunglasses come in an absolutely beautiful gold metallic case, featuring Marilyn’s signature, the product is wonderful quality and a great protection for the shades also. What I was most impressed by with the Marilyn Sunglasses was the attention to detail, which super Marilyn fans, or Marilynettes as we’re known, would definitely notice and appreciate. If you look at all the Sunglasses on the Marilyn Eyewear Website, you’ll see that the majority of the shades are named after Marilyn Film Characters! I think this is such a lovely statement and a unique concept which makes Marilyn Eyewear different from others. The Gift of Glam shades are named after Marilyn’s character, Annabel Jones Norris from her film, We’re Not Married! (1952) one of her earlier film roles and the only chance she had to play a Mother. (Something’s Got To Give (1962) was never completed.)
If you’re after an everyday, classic retro look than Annabel are the must have Sunglasses for you, but fear not, there are three other shades available if you’re after something different. Out of all the amazing vintage style Sunglasses on Marilyn Eyewear, if I had to choose my favourites it would be either, The Marilyn, Elsie, Iris or Rose and yes, that is my attempt at trying to narrow my choices down! All come in different colours and styles, so there are more choices to choose from and they feature Marilyn’s iconic signature – so much beauty!
The Marilyn Monroe Spas Beauty Products all have one thing in common, they are all – you guessed it, red! Anyone who knows anything about Marilyn will associate this bold colour with her, as it was without doubt her signature lipstick shade to wear. As someone who adores the Vintage Look, this was such a wonderful surprise and even better that each item is based on the signature Marilyn look.
The Beauty Blender is a must have in my every day makeup bag and ironically enough, I was just thinking a few days ago that I needed a new one! Plus, I’ve not seen many sponges that are this unique shade, so it will definitely stand out in my collection. Furthermore, the packaging has Marilyn’s beautiful signature on, so yes, I will be keeping the box! I also love how on the back of the packaging it says, “Be Wonderful” which I’m assuming is inspired by one of my favourite, genuine Marilyn quotes.
Also within the Glam Kit is the stunning, True Red 03 Lipstick. Red is the ultimate retro colour and my absolute favourite to wear pretty much every single day and I can confirm, True Red 03 definitely has my approval. The product features Marilyn’s signature in a stunning red and a gorgeous kiss print, which contrasts dramatically with the bold black packaging. I also love the shape of the lipstick as it’s perfect for creating that beautiful full pout. There are so many amazing beauty buys available on Marilyn Monroe Spas, I could honestly spend hours browsing through all the variety of shades!
The final product in the Marilyn Eyewear Gift of Glam is the Marilyn Monroe Red Nail Polish, which features a gorgeous portrait of Marilyn herself – so unique! The shade is eye catching and will definitely make your nails be the centre of attention! Plus, even if you’re not a red lover like myself, it’s worth having just for the stunning packaging with our beautiful blonde bombshell!
Please note, I pride myself in making sure I write honest reviews and although I was fortunate enough to be gifted these items, I was not told to say any of the following statements I have made.
Lastly, I simply must say a huge thank you so much to Marilyn Monroe Eyewear for gifting me these beautiful products, which I will truly cherish.
If you’re a Beauty Blogger like myself or a Makeup Lover, then you’ll know that one of the great things about Instagram is discovering hundreds of new Brands, which is how I came across the amazing,L.O.V Cosmetics! After scrolling through theirIG Account, I decided I simply had to email them and share my enthusiasm for their products. I wasn’t really expecting a response as I know how many Blogger emails Brands must receive, however, I was so happy to see a reply, offering to send me samples of their cosmetics!
As soon as the package arrived I knew instantly that it was from L.O.V when I saw their beautiful logo on the front of the box. I carefully unwrapped the parcel and found within the box – you guessed it – another box! The presentation was absolutely beautiful, featuring a black matte finish and their statement emblem. As I lifted it open, I noticed a beautiful postcard placed on top of the matte personalized L.O.V wrapping paper, with a message to me. As you can probably guess, I was already highly impressed with the aestheticism, when I noticed a stunning satin pouch filled with makeup!
As soon as I saw the beauty products, I instantly had a good feeling about their quality and staying power and ultimately, they most definitely succeeded!
I think what I love most about the lip products is that the lip pencil and lipstick shades are matching! Therefore, I can wear them separately for a more subtle look or together for a long lasting pigmented pout – and we all know I love a bold lip, so of course I will be following the latter! Both lip products are nude, with brown and orange undertones – instantly it made me think of a 60s Brigitte Bardot shade or a 90s Runway Model, you decide?! Although I’m most definitely a red lipstick lover, I do love to try and mix things up every now and then!
The lip pencil applied creamy and was fully pigmented, I only needed one layer and it was very easy to use, although I’m not really sure what the brush is for? I do appreciate having one though! The lipstick has a perfect oval pointed tip which makes creating your dream pout so much easier, it’s just wonderful. Furthermore, the product feels creamy, non sticky and keeps it’s intense shade as advertised. When converted from euros, the lip pencil is £5.18, whilst the lipstick is £8.64 – very good prices for such good quality products! Also, I have to commend L.O.V on the amount of shades available for each item, there is so much variety to choose from, I could spend hours on their website!
As someone who adores a subtle baby pink eyeshadow, I was thrilled to pieces when I opened the compact and saw Floral Odyssey, a mauve pink shade. This product is one very as buildable, which personally is my favourite style of eyeshadow, as there’s nothing worse than over applying the shade on the first layer. This is most definitely an everyday colour and perfect for the Summer Season! For an evening look I’d simply add a few more layers for a stronger impact and contrast it with another shade, it’s definitely versatile and will work with other colours. This retailed at £5.18 also – another great bargain.
Personally, powder is one of my must have makeup products and it is without doubt an everyday must wear for me. Therefore, seeing the Translucent Loose Powder in my package was a breath of fresh air! Believe it or not, for some bizarre reason, I’ve not owned this style of powder for years and I’m ever so glad I can finally say that is no longer the case! The product also comes with a vintage style powder puff – so cute! As far as I’m aware the powder only comes in this one shade and when converted retails at £10.37.
Last but not least in my package, was the Revealing Redwood Nail Lacquer – a stunning mauve pink shade! I’ll be honest, I haven’t actually worn nail varnish in about five + years, shocking, I know! This was due to the varnishes I was using over time ended up weakening and discolouring my nail beds – so gross. However, this product looks absolutely beautiful and I definitely think I will start to paint my nails again! This price was also £5.18, another great deal!
Each of the products have a beautiful chic look to them, are not tested on animals and are genuine great quality! What could possibly be better? The only downside is, as far as I’m aware the company is currently only offering shipping in Germany, so I’m very fortunate to have been gifted some of their amazing items! On a positive, through browsing the web, I think there may be stores available throughout Europe and Ireland, but I can’t be 100% sure. Hopefully this will change soon, as everyone deserves to be able to experience this wonderful Brand.
Please note, I pride myself in making sure I write honest reviews and although I was fortunate enough to be gifted these items, I was not told to say any of the following statements I have made.
Have you got any L.O.V Cosmetics in your Makeup Collection? If so, what’s your favourite product?
It’s pretty surreal to me that after dreaming of owning an Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick for years now, I can finally say that the day has arrived! As far as I’m aware Anastasia was one of the first, if not the first to create the beauty phenomena that is, the liquid lipstick.
A few months ago this beautiful Brand finally launched aUK Websiteand it’s safe to say that pretty much daily I was checking to see if their iconic liquid lipsticks were in stock. For some bizarre reason hardly anything was available online, it simply said, “coming soon to the UK” and I had almost given up on them ever being stocked. However, at last, the long awaited email notification arrived! I must point out, Anastasia has been available on Beauty Retailers such asCult Beautyfor quite a while, yet the liquid lipstick have never been on there to buy.
However, as soon as I read the email, I was straight on to their website and browsing through the 36 shades available, including the recently launched shades! As we all know, my signature shade is of course, a blue toned 1950s red and I had decided that this was what I was going to go for. The great thing about Anastasia is there is such a wide variety of colours available to suit everyone’s tastes and preferences, from popular nudes to unique lilacs and teal – they have it all!
Eventually, I had narrowed my choices down to eitherAmerican Doll, described as a, “classic retro red” – basically my dream shade, right? OrTulip, one of the new colours released which is a, “beet red.” Surprisingly, I decided to choose the latest lipstick released and went with my second choice, Tulip! I thought this red tone looked slightly more unique to my many other reds and ultimately, I definitely think I made the right decision. I’m happy to confirm that the lipstick looks exactly as photographed on the website and it is simply stunning.
At £20, these liquid lipsticks are in the mid to high price range, so sadly I won’t be able to buy one each week, but I know I’m fortunate to have one and yes, it will be cherished. However, as perfect as the product may be, I did have a slight annoyance with the delivery fee. Free shipping is available if you spend over £25 and as the lipstick is £20, chances are if you’re just buying one thing you will have to pay shipping. Of course, I completely understand that not all Brands offer this and that is fine, but having to pay £6.95 for standard shipping, stating 7 – 10 days for delivery is in my opinion, totally unacceptable. There is also an option to pay £10.95 to receive your items in 2 -3 business days.
I really wasn’t happy about paying for such an expensive delivery, so I decided to find the cheapest product available and purchase a pencil sharpener which was £6.00, so I would qualify for free shipping. When I can afford to purchase from Anastasia’s website again, I think I will actually buy two liquid lipsticks instead of one, that way I qualify for free shipping and basically get one of my products for £15. On a positive, my purchase arrived earlier than the date I was give and I was informed by one of my friends that even though I bought from their UK Website, all stock is shipped from the US – hence the high delivery fee.
Ultimately, it was definitely worth spending my money on this beautiful lipstick, the formula is without doubt one of the best liquid lipsticks I’ve used. It dries down matte within seconds, and I actually can’t feel any product on my lips – amazing! However, I do wish they lasted a bit longer, especially on the inside of my lips, although the rest of the lipstick does stay pretty well. There is no scent on the lipstick, which is completely fine with me, although I do usually enjoy the scents, I know not everyone does. The product is a great size and I’m pretty sure this will last me a long time, although it is my current favourite to wear so, I can’t promise anything! I really love the packaging, it is so simple but very elegant and definitely oozes class. One of the best things about Anastasia’s liquid lipsticks is believe it or not – the applicator! I’ve never actually seen one like this before, it’s an oval shape but very flat with a sponge texture, perfect for creating an iconic bold lip.
Overall, shipping aside, I adore this Brand and it definitely lives up to the popularity and hype it receives in the beauty world. The frugal woman inside of me wishes it was slightly cheaper but I can’t really complain when the product is such high quality. I hope to be able to purchase more liquid lipsticks in the future and eventually try out the iconic glow kits!
What’s your favourite Anastasia Beverly Hills product?
I’ve said it before and I’m pretty sure I will continue to say it, I absolutely love discovering and trying new Makeup Brands. Therefore, I was thrilled to find and email in my inbox from,ARTDECO Cosmetics, offering to send me some products from their new Bronzing Collection for Summer to review! Needless to say, I very enthusiastically accepted and was overjoyed when my package arrived.
When I first saw the Sun Blusher I couldn’t believe how simply stunning the packaging was, I mean with the Brand being called ARTDECO, it’s safe to say I had pretty high hopes – but I was absolutely blown away! This is without doubt the prettiest blusher I own and when opened it definitely does not disappoint. In fact, straight away it reminded me of Benefit’s new GALifornia Blush, but double the size! As someone who 99% of the time wears pink blushers, I’ll admit, I was slightly apprehensive about how this beauty would look on me, but I was pleasantly surprised! When applied, the product gave me a lovely warm glow and was very pigmented, but thankfully not too overpowering for my fair skin.
Ultimately, I feel the Sun Blusher can be worn in a variety of ways, it’s all about what look you want to create and the three shades in the compact can create a lot of variety. Sadly, I can’t find this product on ARTDECO Supplier,Beauty Bay, but there are multipleBlushes to choose from, so don’t be disappointed! Prices for this product range from £9 to £29.50, so are definitely in the mid to higher end budget but, the packaging and more importantly, quality is great.
My next beauty product from ARTDECO was the Gold Bronze Oil Beauty Drops and as a highlighter lover, I was extremely excited to try this. Once again, being a very pale girl I was a bit apprehensive about the shade working with my skin, however, this amazing Brand proved me wrong, again! The product creates a beautiful shimmer glow and even has fine glitter particles infused into the product, which gleam in the sunshine. Furthermore, although I’ve not tried this yet, the Oil Drops can even be applied to the ends of your hair to create golden accents – how cool is that?! This product doesn’t feel sticky or greasy on the skin and dries very quickly, it’s very buildable, so if you want a subtle glow then that is achievable and if you want to be a glowing goddess, that’s easily done also! Plus, the product smells like coconut, what could be better?! Sadly, I can’t find the drops on Beauty Bay either, but I’m sure they will be available at some point!
The final gifted product I received was the Hello Sunshine Colour Lip Shine in 10 – Shiny Apricot, a peachy, warm, nude colour. Although I’m incredibly grateful for ARTDECO gifting me these beautiful items, as most of you know, this shade is not usually one I would choose for myself. Personally, I much prefer a bolder lip and don’t really follow the nude lipstick hype, which I can only assume was definitely inspired by The Kardashians. As beautiful as these shades look on Kim, Khloé and Kourtney, they really aren’t my cup of tea, I just feel they wash me out. However, I must say, after using the lipstick a few times, it has started to grow on me! The product is very pigmented but the finish is just too glossy for my liking.
However, lipstick finish aside, I can’t fault the product, it is very creamy and worthy of the name, Lip Shine, the shade just isn’t for me personally. At £16.95 onBeauty Bay, I do feel that the product is slightly overpriced, as it definitely doesn’t last all day, but the formula is a creamy gloss texture, which is most probably why. Therefore, if you’re after a glossy, everyday lip then this is definitely for you, just make sure you keep it in your handbag.
Overall, I am extremely impressed with ARTDECO Cosmetics and I’m very honoured that I had pleasure of being contacted by them in the first place, with a special thank you to Emma for doing so! They have so many amazing and beautiful products and I hope to one day expand my ARTDECO Collection!
Please note, I pride myself in making sure I write honest reviews and although I was fortunate enough to be gifted these items, I was not told to say any of the following statements I have made.
If there’s one Makeup Brand which is currently outdoing itself lately it’s most definitely Makeup Revolution. Not only are their prices pretty damn amazing, but the quality of each product I’ve personally tried is truly exceptional. I’d go as far to say they rival quite a few major High End Brands!
As I’ve said before, when I’m fortunate enough to be able to visit a new City or Country, I try to see and experience all the new sights I can. However, being a huge makeup lover, one of the best things about shopping in a different place means new Brands and yes, maybe even a few, (not so old) favourites! Therefore, if you we’re thinking this was when Makeup Revolution would be returning to this post – you would be correct.
I think I can pretty much guarantee if you’re reading this, you probably love makeup as much as I do. Therefore, 99% of us have all experienced the dreaded moment when we open one of our beloved compacts and see the awful realization – it has completely smashed. With powder being one of my must have products, this was simply not acceptable and I had to find a replacement as soon as possible. Let’s be honest, no one wants the sweaty, foundation dripping look and when you’re in Barcelona and no longer have any powder – you know this is highly likely to happen.
However, fear not, the compact powder problem was soon sorted and in the process, yes you’re right, I did stumble across this beautiful lipstick – so ultimately there was a silver lining! I’ve said it once and we know I will continue to say it again and again, being the vintage girl I am, if I see a good red lipstick, it’s by a Brand I love and it’s a good price – you can definitely assume that I’m going to buy it.
I was pleasantly browsing through the makeup and stumbled across Makeup Revolution, knowing this Brand is available at home initially, I didn’t even think about buying something. Although, when I saw Dare and swatched it on my hand, I knew that assumption would quickly change. At under two euros – yes I’m being totally serious, I couldn’t miss up on such an incredible offer and quickly picked it up!
The lipstick is intensely pigmented, has a lovely soft creamy feel when applied and is very long lasting. We all know I’m a sucker for details and I love how the shade can be seen on the outer product. This is probably one of the cheapest lipsticks I own yet it’s one of the best quality – amazing right? If you’re a bit apprehensive about wearing a red shade then fear not, this colour is definitely an everyday rouge so great to start off with if you’re a red lipstick virgin.
Ultimately, the only downside I have is not even about the product itself! When finding the lipstick online to link in my review, I sadly cannot find this shade online to buy, which makes me think it’s either a new shade or has been discontinued. Once again, the glass is half full and there are three other red shades available, with the newestRubybeing the best dupe.
At just £1.00, you really can’t miss up on an offer like this, you could even buy all nine shades on Superdrug and this would still be cheaper than many high end lipsticks! On the other hand, a part of me wishes I’d not thought of that as I’m partially tempted to do that myself, oh dear.
The only constructive criticism I would give is I’d like to hope Makeup Revolution would release a few pink shades into the collection to add more versatility and options. Although saying that, there are many other lipsticks available from this Brand so I’m sure pink lovers can find their favourite shade!
I can definitely say that Makeup Revolution will continue to be one of my goto favourite Brands and in my heart I only wish I’d discovered it sooner! However, my Bank Account says otherwise – but that’s enough story!
Most of you who read my little old blog will probably know by now that I’ve been a hardcore Vintage Lover since I discovered my angel Marilyn in October 2010. Therefore, it’s by no surprise that I have a lot of love for a certain 1920s Bombshell named, Betty Boop!
As cliché as it may sound, I like to think it’s almost destiny that I was to become a Vintage Girl at heart, as for as long as I can remember, I’ve always adored Betty Boop. This stems from my mum having a soft spot for her and owning little ornaments of Betty that are placed around our house. Thinking about it, one of my nicest memories from Secondary School was my mum buying me an absolutely gorgeous pink pen with Betty all over it – although it ran out over ten years ago, I have no doubt that it’s probably lounging somewhere in my room.
However, I seem to have gotten way off track and I most definitely do not want to spend this post focusing on School – I’m sure you don’t want me to either! So, back to my favourite Flapper Girl! Betty is without doubt one of the most famous cartoons and I think we can all agree when I say, she most definitely gives real life Bombshells a run for their money! I know, it’s hard to believe that in reality, many will tell you that she’s just a drawing – however, we all know by now I’m very much a Dreamer and I like to think Betty, almost a century later, is still booping around somewhere. In fact, Betty Enthusiasts will probably know that she was originally created as a caricature of Actress Helen Kane so technically, technically she is in fact – real!
Once again, I’m getting way too involved in the past and not concentrating on the actual focus of this Review Post, MAC’s very ownBetty Boop Lipstick! Please note – this lipstick is an online exclusive only and after being released in the USA for at least a month, it finally arrived in the UK and of course, I purchased it straight away.
Apart from my absolute favourite, Marilyn, Betty Boop is probably one of the most famous Red Lipstick Lovers and her trademark pout is simply a must in creating her signature look. I mean, when have you ever seen Betty without her crimson lips? Seriously, if you have – please prove me wrong!
Therefore, when you’re a vintage girl, love red lipstick and MAC creates a shade based on Betty’s iconic pout, you know that you simply have to add this product to your makeup inventory. Betty Boop Red is described as a, “bright true red” with a matte finish and let me tell you this – it does not disappoint!
If you’re a blue toned red lover then this is the shade for you, it’s perfect for pale skin, with the cool shade complimenting fair complexions. However, if you have warm or darker skin tones then fear not, I’ve personally never been one to follow lipstick shade advice and often wear orange and coral reds that aren’t recommended for fair skin tones. So ultimately – don’t be put off and if you like the shade, wear it!
I actually find this matte finish slightly different to my other MAC Lipsticks, not in a bad way, I just felt that this one was a lot more shiny. As a result of this I noticed I had to take more time for application if I wanted an overall good outcome and of course, I did. Therefore, if you want a super matte dry finish look I’d recommend going with MAC’sRussian Red.
The only super negative of the product is, ironically nothing to do with the actual lipstick itself, which ultimately I know is a good thing. The negative is down to the packaging and before I complain, I must say, the outer box the lipstick comes in is absolutely beautiful. Of course, we all know I won’t be throwing it away anytime soon. However, the container itself looks just like any other MAC Lipstick! This is so disappointing and pretty strange as with previous collaborations, MAC always have Limited Edition products designed with special packaging and for some reason, apart from the exterior box – is completely normal.
Overall, I wouldn’t let this put you off from purchasing the lipstick, it truly is a beautiful colour and the texture and formula is spot on. Plus, like I said before, it does come in a stunning box which is most definitely worth keeping. I just think it’s important for me to mention encase you want the lipstick and are expecting a beautiful lipstick container that sadly, doesn’t exist.
MAC still create some of my favourite Lipsticks and I have quite a few of their previous Collaborations. I just hope if they ever release another Betty Boop lipstick – they learn from this small but very frustrating mistake.
The Balm is a must buy for any Vintage Girl out there – it’s up there with, Besamé and Benefit Cosmetics – beyond aesthetically appealing with it’s retro, old soul vibe and ultimately – authentic! Therefore, when I finally came to face to face with this beyond gorgeous brand for the first time, I simply had to purchase one of their beautiful products! Thanks to the modern world of technology, I had already discovered their beautiful liquid lipsticks and as this is my favourite beauty product, we all know which item I was going to buy.
After procrastinating between three shades; Devoted,SentimentalandLoyal– I decided to go with my first instinct and chose the original choice,Devoted. This colour is once again, my signature favourite shade to wear which is a deep, vibrant, blue toned ruby red and I can one hundred percent confirm, this colour does not disappoint! This is the first time I have worn the lipstick and I can honestly say I will probably be applying this all week. The shade looks exactly as advertised and I feel like I’ve stepped out of a 1950s Technicolour Movie.
If you’re not really a red lipstick kinda girl, you’ll be happy to know that The Balm have just released six, yes, six, (!) new liquid lipstick shades so you now have eighteen colours to choose from! Just promise me one thing, if you do end up buying them all then please, try not to blame me.
When applying the lipstick I noticed a unique mint scent coming from the product and honestly, it was quite refreshing to smell something different! Don’t get me wrong, I adore the sweet ingredients that are often used in lipsticks, but this fragrance further contributes to The Balm’s products standing out and being memorable. Plus, if you don’t like the mint aroma, there’s really no need to be put off from buying them, as it fades once it’s dried!
Furthermore, the packaging is so detailed and unique! I really appreciate when Brands take the time to not only make a good quality product but, also create something beautiful and classy, which you want to have pride of place on your Vanity Table. I think the majority of makeup lovers would agree that The Balm have truly outdone themselves with packaging and they definitely stand out from other Brands. I think the whole concept behind the product is so witty, very eye catching and most importantly – something different!
Cost wise, The Balm Cosmetics products are in the mid price range, with their liquid lipsticks being, £13.49 in stores and £14.99 online – strange, right? I’ve found that it’s usually the other way around, so I don’t really know why this is the case however, there is a silver lining! Superdrug currently have a 3 for 2 on a lot of their Brands in stores, (I’m not sure about online sadly) and The Balm is one of them, so remember that when you’re next browsing.
The only downside I can think of with The Balm Cosmetics is they are not stocked in every Superdrug, I’ve not yet to come across one in my hometown, (holds back the tears) so, if you’re someone who likes to buy beauty products in store only, this could be a problem. However, as I said previously, the products are just like advertised, so fear not! Debenhams also stock The Balm Cosmetics, so if you’re lucky your local store may have one and if not, it’s only a click away online.
I simply can’t emphasize enough how in love I am with this Brand, all of the products are so beautiful and are pretty much works of art and not just the liquid lipsticks – literally every single item! I can assure you when the sad day comes and my liquid lipstick runs out, I will most definitely be keeping the packaging and yes, maybe that’s too much, but for me? I think not. I may have waited years to finally own something from The Balm – but they most definitely met my dream expectations!
Is it just me who thinks Superdrug are truly outdoing themselves lately with Super High Quality Affordable Makeup Brands? I think not! One of my latest discoveries is to the amazing Makeup Revolution and in this post I will be reviewing their Blush Goddess Palette – which was my first introduction to Highlighter!
Not only are their products quality and long lasting, but they are incredibly affordable – what could be better?! Therefore, as soon as I saw and tried out this wonderful Blush Palette in, “Blush Goddess” I knew that I simply had to purchase one for myself. At just £6, yes you read that correctly, you get eight blushes; four of them are matte shades and the other four are shimmer shades. Each blush is highly pigmented and perfect if you love a rosy pink glow for the Spring and Summer Seasons, or all year round if you’re like myself and stay away from the bronzing.
I’ve been using this for a good few months now and the palette is showing virtually no signs of wear, so I won’t be needing to buy another anytime soon. Plus, I rarely find a palette in which I like all of the shades and use them regularly, but, this is the first one which breaks the mold! I think this is because most of the shades are fairly similar, therefore if you mostly wear pink and peachy shades – this is the palette for you. However, fear not! Makeup Revolution have a wide variety of products available, with at least six other palettes on offer, I love that they cater for everyone’s preferences! Who doesn’t love a variety?!
For fellow makeup lovers like myself who like to glow and sparkle, not only is this product a blusher, but the four shimmer shades are basically alternatives to highlighter! Therefore, I usually use a matte shade first, preferably the third pink on the bottom line and after applying I go to the top line and add a shimmer overlay – most often the second highlighter. I love how well the colours blend together, they create such a wonderful glow, so much so that a little goes a long way and if you’re looking for the less is more approach, one swipe will definitely be enough.
I’m so happy this palette was my first introduction to highlighter as I had four beautiful shades to mix and match with and also four matte blushes all for such an amazing price! The only negative I can really think of and if I’m honest – it’s not really a negative, is that this brand is exclusive to Superdrug, so if you don’t have one near you then that could be a problem. Also, there is no mirror in the palette, but that’s not really an issue and can’t really be expected for the price. However, thanks to the modern world of technology, you can easily order online!
I’m wearing the third Blusher on the lower section and the first three of the Blush Highlighters on my face. The yellow shade I applied in the corners of my eyes, my cupids bow and below my eyebrow bone and the first two pink shades I applied on my cheeks.
The packaging is simple but very classy and as much as I love pretty packaging, I’d much rather have a quality product any day. Ultimately, they let the makeup do the talking! I can definitely say that I will hope to purchase more Makeup Revolution products in the future and next on my list is definitely theirBlush Queenpalette, which looks even more vibrant and pink than Blush Goddess!
I’ll be honest, if someone had told me to go and check out Primark’s own Makeup Range; PS…, I probably would have said no and continued to only venture in every now and then in hopes of finding Marilyn things. However, my favourite Beauty Blogger, Em akamypaleskinblogdid a huge Primark beauty haul on her Youtube Channel which enlightened me to not always be such a makeup snob!
To be fair to myself, which I rarely am – (but that’s another story), I do buy a wide variety of both higher and lower end beauty products, it’s just that I’d never considered Primark for makeup. The irony is, occasionally a cheaper Brand ends up making a longer lasting, better quality product compared to a Luxury Company! Therefore it goes to show that although you may get a more aesthetically pleasing purchase, it doesn’t always mean it’s better – which is basically the moral of this post.
During my haul I picked up a red lip liner, two beauty blenders and an eye shadow palette, with each item being the maximum price of.. £2.50! I would have also purchased a lipstick of some sort, however they didn’t really have any red shades which I was hoping for. Although, I’ve just been browsing on theirwebsiteand they have some lovely products which means I will definitely be popping in there again at some point.
I must say, I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome of each purchase! At such cheap prices I wasn’t expecting anything astounding, but each item applied wonderfully and I actually continue to use the products weekly. Plus, even with all of the items being so cheap, they still looked very pleasing to the eye! The packaging is bold and very classic. Ultimately, I care more about the products quality however, the little touches do often make the beauty buy and for their price they definitely don’t disappoint!
Firstly, the lip liner sharpens well and feels smooth and creamy when I apply it to my lips, not chalky or harsh at all! It’s also long lasting and to be honest, I don’t really notice any difference when I compare it to my other liners! The red cap matches the shade of the liner, which contrasts beautifully with the black pencil and gold writing. Plus, it’s pretty convenient as it makes it a lot easier finding the shade you like.
Secondly, the beauty blenders come in two different shapes, one oval and one curved with the top and bottom being two different sizes. Better yet, they’re both pink! One being baby pink and the other being hot pink and yes, as you can probably tell by my excitement – I’m most definitely a girlie girl. Comparing it with my Real Techniques sponge, I can notice a slight difference with the texture – the Primark beauty blenders are not as smoothe, but for the price you can’t really complain!
Last but not least, the eye shadow palette contains beautiful nude colours, with warm and cool earthy tones that have subtle glittery pigments. The shades are very bendable and understated , so if you love a bold dramatic shadow then this probably isn’t for you. However, if you like your winged eyeliner to be the stand out factor in your makeup, then this is definitely a must have.
The only overall downside I can think of when reviewing these items is ironically – the price! Don’t get me wrong, we all love a good bargain however, because everything is so cheap, if you’re not careful you could end up spending a lot more than you would with a higher end Brand.
Also, I’m not saying every single beauty product from Primark is wonderful as that’s ultimately unlikely, like with 99% of Makeup Brands – not everything can be perfect. But, from my mini haul I can definitely say that I use all of my items regularly and all have turned out to be quality items which I recommend.
