MAC Nutcracker Sweet Basic Brush Set.

As someone who has loved and used makeup for quite a few years, with time comes experience, learning and the realization that how you apply your makeup is just as important as the finished creation. To sum up my introduction – brushes and blenders are a must have for application!

When I really started getting into perfecting my makeup and skills of some sort, I discovered the wonderful Real Techniques and have been using them for years. However, it was with sheer delight and utter surprise that for Christmas I received the MAC Nutcracker Sweet Basic Brush Set  – which in my opinion, is without doubt their best packaging yet! I must add, as the season is sadly well and truly over – this product is on sale for £31.50, saving around £15. Although some may find this price pretty expensive for, “brushes” I know that some products can often cost near the £100 mark! So for five applicators from a very established brand this is most definitely a great deal.

Within this set you get a lip, foundation or blush, eye liner, fluff and powder brush set all included in a beautiful matching pink and purple bag. Also, not only did my wonderful mum get me this for Christmas – she also picked up a MAC  Fan Brush for highlighting. As expected from this brand, the quality of the product is absolutely wonderful – the brushes are so fine and soft! But yes, with quality you do often pay a fair bit extra and at £20, this was definitely not the cheapest. However, I always think to myself that if you want a long lasting product then sometimes you do have to pay that little bit extra. The packaging is classic MAC – black and silver and most definitely bold and iconic, oozing every inch of style.

This product is perfect for your everyday make up and a wonderful starter pack if you’re just getting into makeup brushes and want something that will stand the test of time. Furthermore, it’s such a great size to take with you whether you’re travelling or simply off out for the day. Although my fan brush was bought separately, it happily fits in the bag with the other products so that’s definitely an extra bonus.

Furthermore, not only is the packaging and each brush absolutely stunning – like seriously beautiful, but the box the set comes in matches the bag and each product! So naturally, I’ve kept that too and I can justify that by the extra packaging keeping the products even safer.

The MAC Nutcracker Sweet Collection is just a dream for makeup lovers or for people who appreciate pretty things and I will be using it all year round for sure! So, I’d definitely grab it whilst you can as it won’t be in stock for much longer – sobs. However, I can’t wait to see what they release next!

MAC Viva Glam Ariana Grande 2 Lipstick.

The best thing about having a Mum who loves Make Up as much as you do is definitely sharing  and swapping products! Therefore, I was very happy to hear that my favourite lady had purchased Ariana Grande’s New Viva Glam Lipstick entitled, Viva Glam Ariana II” and I could try it myself. Of course, I did not turn the offer down!

The lipstick is described as a, “Deep Cool Matte Orchid Pink” however, as soon as I saw it I straight away thought of MAC’S, “Up The Amp” which is described as a, “Lavender Violet” – this description definitely sounded more accurate in my opinion. Although, both products vary with their finishes – the first being matte and the latter being amplified creme. However, I must add that when I tried on Ariana’s second Viva Glam Lipstick I noticed that it was much lighter than Up The Amp and did have an almost pink tint to the shade.

As with all MAC Lipsticks, the formula of each product is amazing and the matte finish is definitely the best for a long lasting stay power. I feel I judged this shade far too quickly in comparing it to Up The Amp and it truly is a unique shade like no other. This shade is universal with all skin tones and I think anyone who likes a bolder lipstick can definitely pull this off. If you’re used to wearing lighter nude shades than this probably isn’t the lipstick for you. However, in Ariana’s Collection there is also a lipglass in a, “Nude Neutral Pink” – so perfect for fans of a more subtle look than can be worn everyday.

At £15.50, this lipstick is in the mid to high price range but I can definitely say that you get your moneys worth with a quality long lasting product. Therefore, compared to a cheaper product this is worth the money if you ultimately want to spend less over time. Plus, with each Viva Glam product 100% of the purchase price goes towards The MAC Aids Fund which has raised over $400 million dollars towards fighting this awful disease.

If you’ve bought a Viva Glam lipstick before you’ll know that the packaging is slightly different compared to the usual design. As Ariana is the current Viva Glam Girl, the box and product itself features her Signature on a beautiful red metallic background. In my opinion, this is definitely a lot more aesthetically pleasing compared to the standard packaging – although that itself is still very iconic.

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipsticks in Beso and Patina.

Before I start reviewing these amazing liquid lipsticks, I have to thank my gorgeous Sophie for introducing me to Stila by buying these two products for me for my Birthday! Stila first came to my attention a few weeks previously when I saw Sophie frequently wear one of their liquid lipsticks called, “Patina” and she couldn’t say enough positive things about it – that’s when I knew it was a must have purchase!

The shades I received from Sophie was her favourite, “Patina” and my go to colour, (red – what else?), “Beso” and I was instantly in love with them. I’m especially glad that one of the shades she bought me was, “Patina” as I doubt I would have bought it for myself as I would assume it wouldn’t suit me. Surprisingly – I was so wrong! Patina is a beautiful mauve nude pink, a really unique colour that is bold and such a lovely shade to wear. I can definitely see why it’s Sophie’s favourite and I’m happy to say it’s one of mine too! Beso is a stunning bold true blue red, the ultimate vintage bombshell shade and a must have in my old soul opinion. I really don’t think you can go wrong with red lipstick, it’s just such a classic and timeless look.

There are so many liquid lipsticks out there now and sadly so many have a lot of flaws and don’t quite match the hype they are given. However, I can without a doubt say that the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipsticks are the best I have ever used! They stay on for hours and do not feeling uncomfortable or drying on your lips as the formula includes avocado oil and Vitamin E.

Not only is the product beautiful but the packaging is absolutely stunning, featuring a gorgeous bold gold colour for the wand and the font. At £16, the lipsticks are at the mid price range but in my opinion are definitely worth the money. The product is a decent size so should last quite a while and you only need a small amount of lipstick because it’s so pigmented. Furthermore, the wand brush is flexible which makes it a lot easier to apply the lipstick and contour the shape of your lips. In my opinion, this is incredibly important for a liquid lipstick to have as a hard wand brush can make it extremely hard to apply nicely if you don’t own a lipstick brush.

It’s fascinating applying the lipstick and watching it dry from a glossy formula to a matte finish in a matter of seconds! Unlike some liquid lipsticks this dries completely, staying incredibly well and not rubbing off easily like some others sadly do. I absolutely adore these lipsticks and can’t wait to try more from their collection, I can’t thank Sophie enough for introducing me to Stila!

KIKO MILANO Velvet Passion Matte Lipstick in Cherry 312.

I absolutely adore make up as I’m sure you have probably guessed by now, so what could be better than receiving a beautiful new gift by a Brand you’ve never tried. One of my closest friends kindly bought me my first KIKO Velvet Passion Matte Lipstick in shade 312 Cherry  – she knows me so well, and I have to say I was definitely not disappointed!

The lipstick is incredibly creamy whilst creating a matte finish and I also is very long lasting, I ate my lunch and had a nap and when I woke up the lipstick was still very prominent. I could have got away with not reapplying it but it feels so nice to wear that I actually wanted to!

The colour is of course my signature go to shade as a vintage girl at heart – red! It is the perfect Bombshell colour, a blue toned intense red that creates a statement and works perfectly with classic winged eyeliner and rosy cheeks. I feel like I’ve traveled right from the 1950s!

As soon as I opened the package I noticed the lipstick was shaped in a square tip format, similar to Charlotte Tilbury’s which I also love. I think this is such a great idea as it makes applying the lipstick so much easier and helps with the shaping and contouring the outline of the lips. It can sometimes be quite daunting applying a bold lip colour as you never know how easy it will be to put on but the square tip design is just as good as using a lip brush.

The lipstick comes in a gold and silver packaging which contrast beautifully together and make the product extra bold and eye catching. From memory I can’t think of any other lipstick designed like this which makes it stand out even more and now I want to add more to my collection! There’s also a great variety of shades available, with 19 other lipsticks in the collection ranging from beautiful nudes to shocking purples, therefore providing for everyone.

At £10.90, the lipstick is in the mid price range, not super expensive but not extremely cheap and not one you might be able to afford to buy every week. I personally think the product is definitely worth the money, it’s a beautiful quality and long lasting lipstick, Plus, the case has a magnetic closure, meaning it can’t accidentally be left open or get lost, which is always an extra bonus!

If you like to apply a lip pencil first to create a base and add definition then you’re in luck, all the lipstick colours match the KIKO Ever Lasting Colour Precision Lip Pencils! Therefore you won’t have any mismatching problems and if you can’t be bothered to wear both – you can always use one or the other and get the same look.

The only downside to KIKO – and it’s technically a compliment, is that as far as I’m aware there isn’t a store near where I live, which is such a shame as I’m sure I’d be a regular customer! However, I can order online and free shipping is offered,  so don’t worry if there isn’t a store near you, there is a silver lining.

Charlotte Tilbury The Queen Lipstick.

Today I will be reviewing my third Charlotte Tilbury lipstick and an online exclusive rightfully called – The Queen. I’ve been a huge fan of Charlotte Tilbury’s products from the moment I saw their incredibly aesthetically pleasing brand in John Lewis, it really is a vintage girls dream. However, I’ve yet to branch out to any of the other products available as I’m absolutely obsessed with lipsticks, but from what I’ve seen all of the make up looks just as impressive and I can’t wait to try it!

I came across this lipstick purely through luck, I was browsing on my laptop and an advert popped up showing my dream lipstick, therefore my first introduction to Charlotte Tilbury’s The Queen! The luck continued to be with me as my Birthday was coming up, so I knew what I’d be asking for and as you probably guess by this post – my beautiful mum did not disappoint!

This colour is one of my signature favourite shades, a hot pink with a touch of red making it impossible to blend in and creating an iconic pout. The lipstick was actually created to pay homage to Her Majesty, Elizabeth II, (hence the name) and was inspired by The Crown Jewels, I definitely think she would approve. This product is part of Charlotte’s Matte Revolution Collection and is incredibly long lasting and bold, you are definitely buying a quality lipstick! Not only does it look and feel great on your lips but it also hydrates and protects them with tree and orchid extract.

As I’ve mentioned in a previous post featuring my first Charlotte Tilbury Lipstick, the product is shaped into a square tip which is perfect for defining your lips. The tip is actually designed to create the illusion of a lipstick brush and makes the application process a lot easier, especially if you don’t have one.

At £23, this lipstick is definitely in the higher end price range, but I really think it’s worth the money. The quality of the product is truly stunning, not only is it long lasting and moisturizing for your lips, it also looks absolutely gorgeous. My favourite part of the lipstick has the be the vintage style packaging, I adore the rose gold case and I think its so iconic and such a statement design.

Beauty Buys.

At long last I’ve finally tried out my recent make up purchases and this post will be all about me reviewing each one. I decided to write about these products all in one blog due to it primarily being face and eye make up, so I could wear it all at once unlike lipstick.

I picked up these products at long last a few weeks ago, after having them on my make up wish list for quite a while. I purchased, The Blushed Nudes by Maybelline, Super Liner Perfect Slim by Loreal, Collection Speedy Highlighter and Rose Boudoir Nude Smoky Eye Shadow by Bourjois.

After using The Nudes by Maybelline prolifically for the past few months, I was filled with excitement when I heard about the new Blushed Nudes Palette being released. It’s a complete contrast to the previous eye shadow collection and full of romantic colours filled with glitter and perfect shades for the summer. I decided to try and create a warm 1950s shimmery pink look by picking the vibrant pink shade on the bottom right and the peach gold shade on the top right. The great thing with these palettes is that there are instruction guides pictured on the back to give you an idea of which shades work best together. However, I decided I’d just try and used my imagination and go with my instinct, which doesn’t always turn out great but I think this time it went pretty well overall. After testing the palette out I think I actually enjoy these shades more than the previous nude collection and can’t wait to create more styles!

I’ve definitely been inspired to try certain make up products after watching YouTuber Vloggers talk about some of their favourite buys. Therefore, after viewing Zoella’s Favourite Drugstore & High Street Make Up Products video, I knew I had to try her favourite go to eye liner – Super Liner Perfect Slim by Loreal. What impressed me most about this product was how thin the felt tip was, as someone who likes to build up their liner, it is a lot less intimidating when the pen is slim and not chunky. The colour is an intense black and didn’t start to run out when forming each wing, it also doesn’t fade or need reapplying and lasts all day. Ultimately, all I can say is – thank you Zoella!

Speaking of Youtubers, as you all probably know by now I have an absolute favourite and her name is Em aka MyPaleSkinBlog. One of the great things about her is she uses all different kinds of products, from super expensive to very affordable and is always honest and open about her reviews. I saw her recommend the Collection Speedy Highlighter and with highlighting taking over the make up world I thought I’d give it a try. At only £3.99 it was definitely worth the money, although it isn’t very noticeable in these photos, I could notice it on my cheeks during the day. I felt I had to use a fair amount, but that wasn’t a problem as it’s extremely easy  to use – you just roll and then blend in. I’ve only tried it over my blusher, so I do wonder if it will look more intense on it’s own?  All I know is practice is key, but for a first time highlighter it’s pretty good!

Last but not least, I picked up this beautiful Glittery Gold Bourjois Compact during my Holiday in Spain a month or so ago. I love contrasting my super intense winged eyeliner with a subtle calming eye shadow, I definitely follow Marilyn’s make up wisdom there! I actually tried all three colours today, blending the darkest shadow in the crease and I think they are absolutely beautiful. As you can see from this picture with my make up today, the highlighter is a lot more noticeable, but sadly the eye shadow can’t be seen very well so you’ll have to trust my judgement.

Overall I’m very pleased with my make up purchases and I look forward to continue sharing with you my thoughts and reviews! If you’ve tried any of these or similar products before, let me know what you think!

MAC Give In Lipstick.

MAC lovers! In case you’re not aware, a new collection of lipsticks called Blue Nectar have recently been released online and in stores. I’ve been eagerly awaiting this launch for quite a few weeks now and to my surprise I stumbled across the new range in store last weekend.

There are twelve shades,  three of them being re-releases, (I think) and nine new colours. Before being able to swatch each lipstick I’d already decided I loved quite a few of them, my favourite being Intoxica – a classic red, what else? Therefore, this post is all the more surprising when I reveal I went for a completely new shade for me – Give in!

I sadly wasn’t as impressed with Intoxica when I swatched it, I don’t know why, it just didn’t seem to live up to my hopes, however I’ve not actually tried it on, so don’t let me influence you too much. Ultimately, I think I’ve just got way too many red lipsticks! But you can never have enough, right?

What’s shocking about me choosing Give In is pretty obvious, it’s not a classic 1950s vintage girl shade and it’s definitely not a colour I have in my lipstick collection!  Give In is described as a creamy natural pink and I’d agree with that, it’s definitely a lot more pale than my usual bold colours and clearly doesn’t stand out as much – not that that’s a bad thing of course. It’s without doubt a definite 1960s shade, so if you’re a fan of sixties make up then this is the colour for you. The finish is amplified, so creates an almost glossy texture which I’ve noticed doesn’t last as long as matte so a lip pencil with this shade would go a long way – I’ve yet to find the matching colour for it though!

I’ll be honest, when I first applied the lipstick, I really wasn’t sure if it suited me, I couldn’t decide if it was just too light  for me and I’m pretty sure I could hear my red lipsticks whispering to wear them instead. However, as soon as I’d fixed my hair and outfit I felt that actually, change can be a pretty good thing and maybe this was one of those moments. When I swatched all of the shades in the store this colour stood out to me for a reason, it was different and it wasn’t my go to lipstick. I always love experimenting with make up and trying different shades, daring to be different and remove any invisible barriers I create for myself

I’m always used to wearing a bold shade of lipstick, even when I wear a nude or coral colour it’s always fairly pigmented and this definitely wasn’t one of those. I automatically think of this shade suiting darker skin tones, eyes and hair to contrast and create a more stand out look, however, it was nice to realize it actually didn’t look too bad on myself. I have to remind myself that not all blondes wear red lipstick – nude shades are giving just as much competition!

I don’t know about the stores, but if you want to order this online then currently you’re out of luck. Not only is Give In sold out but five out of the twelve shades are temporarily, (I think) unavailable. As this clearly means they’re very popular, I’d hope they’d be back in stock asap, so don’t lose hope! What I love about this collection is there are so many unique shades, I can’t tell you how long I’ve wanted a lilac lipstick and there’s finally one available, well it’s sold out for now – but you get my point!

Rosie For Autograph Lipstick in Dolly Baby.

After watching Lisa Eldridge’s Make Up Tutorial with Rosie featuring her Rosie For Autograph Make Up Collection, I was inspired to try some of the products myself. Ironically, I just happened to be in Marks & Spencer today and decided to take a look at the products and I was very impressed!

They are all packaged beautifully in a rose gold finish which reminded me of Charlotte Tilbury’s Make up and it’s definitely one of my favourite styles as it reminds me of Classic Hollywood! I  also read that Rosie’s Collection is inspired by her love of vintage which makes me very happy as a huge vintage lover myself.

I picked up one of her lipsticks in the shade, “Dolly Baby” as it was the most vibrant shade and the pink coral colour was reminiscent of what vintage stars wore in 1950s Technicolour Movies. The other shades were mostly nudes and browns and as Rosie’s signature style is a natural golden look I just assumed these were the only colours available. At £15 the price is not too expensive, but it’s not the cheapest product either, however I don’t mind paying a bit more for a quality product. However, I was happily surprised to see on her website that there are also vibrant reds and pinks which are my favourite shades to wear.

The lipstick applied lovely, it’s a sheen glossy based formula but very pigmented so I’m hoping it’s long lasting, I’ve read it is so I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed. I think coral pinks are perfect for the Spring and Summer season as they bring so much warmth to your face! Not only is the lipstick a quality product but it is cruelty free so no animals were harmed and it is suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Therefore I’m sure this will make Rosie’s Collection even more respected and popular with a large audience.

Furthermore, what’s great about this lipstick is it doesn’t feel dry on your lips, probably because it’s enriched with argan oil so don’t feel guilty for choosing your lipstick over vaseline! I absolutely love the beautiful rose carved into the lipstick, the extra detail is so unique and such a beautiful statement. If I could try one thing from the collection I’d definitely pick the Liquid Eyeliner as it has a very fine tip and looks wonderful for perfecting the cat eye flick. I  can’t wait to look through all of the products available and review them in the future, the collection truly oozes class and elegance.

Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Matte-Lip in Pretty Muted.

As someone who adores the vintage era and the style from the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, I’ve always appreciated the Soap & Glory Brand! I’ve used a few of their Bath products for years and loved them and yesterday I finally made my first purchase from their Make Up range, buying myself a Sexy Mother Pucker Lipstick.

I remember years ago when the Sexy Mother Pucker Lipglosses first came out and a few people had them, you applied the gloss and suddenly your lips would tingle and plump up – fascinating! Sadly I never got round to getting one, however, there’s always time!

I love the packaging of Soap & Glory, the Lipstick is the perfect size to carry with you anywhere and at just £3.50 it’s an absolute bargain! I decided to purchase a Matte Lipstick over a Gloss Stick as I feel the glossy finishes never last as long. I was testing each shade on my hand and decided to go for a warm pink shade.

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, although I love the colour pink I rarely wear it as a lip shade as I  prefer to choose bolder colours. However, I really loved the warm tones to Pretty Muted and I always think it’s good to try out different shades. As well as red shades being a signature colour of the 1950s, pinks were often worn quite frequently and as someone who is forever being inspired by Old Hollywood, I thought I’d try and embrace them too.

What I loved about this product is the shape of the lipstick, it’s perfect for defining your lip line and is very easy to apply, it even glides on smoothly like a lip gloss but the results are matte finish – such a paradox! The only negative thing I found when using the Sexy Mother Pucker was that I had to apply quite a lot of coats to get the shade quite noticeable. I can only attribute this to the low price of the lipstick as the quality is lovely, it would probably stay on for longer if I had applied a lip pencil first.

I definitely will be using more Soap & Glory in the future, it’s such a unique brand and very special to vintage lovers like myself! I think next time I’ll try a darker shade or a  Matte Powder Coat Long-Wear Lipstick as that seems more suitable for me. However, it’s refreshing to try a new shade of lipstick and I’m definitely coming round to wearing pink lipstick!

Younique Lipstick.

As you have probably guessed by now, I adore make up and as a huge lipstick lover I’m forever trying different shades and brands. Therefore, I was thrilled to be contacted by a lovely presenter from the make up brand Younique; Lizzie, asking me if I would be happy to test out one of their lipsticks. Yes, I’m pretty sure you can all guess what my answer was!

I was sent a link to the website so I could view all of the lipsticks and there were so many beautiful shades! The lipstick I was sent is called a Moodstruck Opulence Lipstick and the shade is Pretentious. When I first saw it I knew straight away that I would adore it, it’s such a vibrant fuschia pink and looks exactly like the picture on the website, which is very important!

I think my favourite thing about the lipstick would have the be the glitter pigments, I’ve had many lipsticks and lip glosses over the years that look glittery but produce no glitter when applied – which is very frustrating! However, the glitter in Pretentious was fully apparent when I applied the shade this morning, I felt it made my lips look 3D. Plus, for all Marilyn/Old Hollywood fans, the texture created reminded me of Marilyn’s iconic lips in Niagara (1953), the only difference being the shade. What could be better?

The lipstick was easy to apply and perfect for shaping the contours of my lips and creating a glossy look without feeling sticky or clumpy. Therefore there’s no need to apply any separate gloss over the lipstick! There are two finishes available in the Moodstruck lipsticks; Matte and Pearl and Pretentious has a pearl finish, which I personally prefer.

I also think it’s wonderful how there is a whole page to show you how to use the Moodstruck Opulence Lipsticks, all of the different shades by colour and finish and the science and ingredients behind the product. As a vintage girl at heart, I’m really loving the reds, Vain and Stinkin’ Rich!

Not only is the lipstick a beautiful colour, but the packaging of the product is so pretty! The black container is so elegant and is finished with a lovely pattern on the top of the product and on the inside too. Younique pride themselves on quality make up and the website has lots of details about how their brands aim is to enrich and nourish the skin with their goal being to provide healthy, clean and pure cosmetics. I for one, definitely think they succeed!

I can’t wait to try more of Younique’s products in the future, there are so many to choose from, I really could spend hours browsing through their website! You can also find them on, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube!

Thank you to Lizzie for introducing me to this wonderful brand, I will definitely go back for more products!
